There’s both an art and a science to choosing glasses. The art: selecting the shape, color, and material that speak to your personality. The science: choosing the right type of frame for your vision needs and unique facial measurements.
Together, they create magic — well-fitting glasses that help you see well and look fabulous!
Read on for tips on choosing the right frame shape, color, and material. Then check out our guide to what measurements you need to ensure well-fitting glasses.
Faces can be grouped into six main shapes: oval, round, square, diamond, heart, and triangle.
Not sure of your face shape? Here’s how to figure it out:
Choose a frame that accentuates your face’s natural shape and features. Here’s a quick guide to face shapes and frame styles that typically complement each other.
Try rectangle, square, cat-eye, and round frames.

Just like face shapes, there are different styles of frames. We sort our frames into rectangle, square, round, and cat-eye shapes. Choose a frame that complements your face’s shape and angles.
In general, the following frame shapes pair well with these face shapes.

Now, the fun part. Choosing your frame material and color is a chance to express your personality. (If you’ve ever seen Prue Leith of “The Great British Bake Off” fame, then you know what we mean!)
The first choice: acetate, metal, or mixed-material frames. All frame types provide strength and flexibility, making them ideal for everyday wear. Metal frames come in different metals, like gold, silver, or titanium, as well as different finishes. Likewise, acetate frames, made from plant-based (not petroleum-based) plastic, come in a range of colors and finishes.
If you’re allergic to certain metals, choose either acetate or titanium frames. Both these materials are hypoallergenic and should be safe on your skin.
And then there’s color. Tortoiseshell, clear, silver, bright and bold colors, or earthen neutrals — the choices abound! Your skin tone, eye color, and fashion and accessories style can all influence your choice. Have fun with your frame color — maybe even try different colors or styles if you have more than one pair of eyewear. Showcase your style!
One of the best ways to find your glasses online is to try them on from the comfort of your home. We offer both home try-on and virtual try-on for a large selection of our frames.
With home try-on, select up to six different frames and we’ll send them right to your door. Pick the one you like best and complete your order online. Don’t love any? Send them back and pick up to six new frames. Or let us know, and our style concierge team will send you new frames to try based on your style profile.
With virtual try-on, you can see how the frames look on you right from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. When browsing a specific frame, simply select the “virtual try-on” button and enable your device’s camera to see the frames on your face. It’s fun to try — the frames move with you so you can see them from multiple angles.
